The Hobby Cultivator leverages Dosatron’s unique, water-powered dosing technology to deliver the optimum blend of nutrients and fertilizers directly to your plants. Engineered specifically for indoor home grows and basement grows, the Hobby Cultivator is perfect for applications with an average of four to six lights or 12 to 96 plants. The standard system comes with four Dosatron pumps but is easily adapted by adding more pumps based on the needs of the application. It can be used with a direct injection approach or alongside small batch tank systems and recirculating water cultures.

Where Does The Hobby Cultivator Excel?

Engineered specifically for personal and craft-style growers, the Hobby Cultivator is perfect for applications with an average of 4 to 24 lights, covering anywhere from a dozen to a few hundred plants. It can be used for a multitude of application types – either direct injection or to fill small batch tank systems – with flow rates that range from 0.5 to 5 gallons per minute.

The standard system comes with four Dosatron pumps but is easily adapted to any multi-part recipe simply by adding single dosers (up to 8 total). To simplify the buying process, we also offer system bundles so you can choose the right combination for any feed chart or nutrient recipe. Below are some examples:

How does the Hobby Cultivator differ from Dosatron's commercial units?

The Hobby Cultivator is built from polyacetal rather than the polypropylene used in commercial units like the D14, giving it less chemical resistance but a much lower price point. It has one fixed injection rate rather than adjustable ranges, and it's designed as a consumable — the only serviceable part is the maintenance kit, rather than fully replaceable internal and external parts.

How long does a Hobby Cultivator unit last?

Dosatron testing indicates roughly a 3-year lifespan with proper annual maintenance kit replacement.

What's included when I buy the 4-pack?

The 4-pack includes 4 units, unions, and suction hoses. MSRP is approximately $1,500 for the pack, making it a low-barrier entry point for first-time Dosatron users. Individual injectors can also be purchased separately if you need to add capacity to an existing setup.

Do I need a monitor kit or water hammer arrestor with the Hobby Cultivator?

Not necessarily. Since recipes aren't switched often in a typical hobby setup, a simple test port for hand-testing is usually sufficient instead of a full monitor kit. A water hammer arrestor is still recommended for warranty purposes, though it's less critical here since the downstream line is usually short.

How do I set up multiple Hobby Cultivator units for a base A/B nutrient line?

For a two-part base (A and B), use one injector per part to hit the target injection rate — typically around 1:175, or roughly 20-22 mils per gallon. If you need a higher injection rate than one unit provides, two units can be plumbed with suction hoses to the same tank, splitting the draw between them.

Can the Hobby Cultivator be used with liquid or soluble/dry nutrients?

The units are designed primarily for liquid nutrient lines, but they can work with solubles — you may just need to mix the stock tank a bit heavier, or double up injectors pulling from the same solution.
