Store
VidaWool blocks do not need to be housed in a climate-controlled environment but should be kept dry until use. Store pallets no more than two high to avoid damage.
Saturate and condition
Saturate blocks by submerging for up to 1 minute in a nutrient solution adjusted to a pH of 5.5–6.0. As an alternative, spray with the nutrient solution until the entire block is completely saturated. Allow the blocks to drain for a couple of seconds before positioning them on your growing surface.
Transplant plugs
Pick and place VidaWool starter plugs directly into the block. No added force or shaping is required.

Vidawool blocks are available in six sizes — 512, 256, 190, 144, 64, and 40 cubic inches. The block number corresponds directly to cubic inches: for example, Block 512 is 8"x8"x8" (8 × 8 × 8 = 512). This version has no pre-cut hole, letting you cut your own placement or use the block as-is.
What is Hydro Extend technology?
Hydro Extend is Vidawool's proprietary technology built into its blocks and slabs. It ensures even water and nutrient dispersion throughout the substrate, eliminating dry pockets and uneven re-saturation — particularly relevant if a customer reports inconsistent results at the corners or edges of blocks.
What is the UV-resistant liner on Vidawool blocks?
Vidawool was first to market with a UV-resistant liner on grow blocks. It blocks UV light from penetrating the block and inhibiting root growth at the edges, letting roots grow fully to the perimeter and maximizing usable substrate volume.
Can this block be finished in-block, or does it need to be transplanted?
Both are supported. Vidawool blocks can be finished through harvest in the block itself, transplanted onto a slab, or stacked on top of each other.
Does Vidawool need to be preconditioned before use?
Yes. The natural pH of Vidawool mineral wool runs 7.0-9.0. Precondition with a pH 5.0-6.0 solution before use to bring the root zone to a target pH that maximizes nutrient availability.
