What does this Dosatron check valve do?
This check valve assembly functions as a vacuum/siphon breaker. When the system is pressurized, the reversed check valve prevents solution from leaking out the barb fitting at the top, and prevents downstream water — or a broken/frozen line — from siphoning back through the Dosatron system and contaminating the fresh water source.
Is this check valve needed for a custom monitor kit build?
Yes, if you're building a custom manifold or monitor kit rather than using Dosatron's standard kit. Note that D40 and larger high-flow units already have a vacuum breaker built in — visible as a small black knob on the injection stem — so this add-on isn't needed for those units.
