3x3 Grow Trays & Flood Tables
3x3 hydroponic grow trays and flood tables provide a compact ebb-and-flow or drain-to-waste growing surface for 9-square-foot production zones. The 3x3 footprint aligns with 3x3 grow tent dimensions and fits under a single 315W to 400W light, making it one of the most efficient small-space configurations for container or soilless slab growing. Trays in this size are available from Botanicare in multiple ABS plastic configurations and with matching Fast Fit tray stands for elevated drainage setups.
Botanicare Tray Options in 3x3
Botanicare offers the 3x3 in OD (outside drain), ID (inside drain), LT (lip tray for container growing), and Core ID configurations -- each with slightly different drain placement and lip height suited to different growing methods. The OD tray drains from the outside edge, keeping the drain fitting accessible from the perimeter. The ID tray drains from the center bottom, preferred for setups where the tray sits on a stand above a reservoir. The LT (lip tray) has a raised lip for containing containers and media without a dedicated drain fitting. All Botanicare 3x3 trays are made from UV-stabilized ABS plastic in black or white.
Fast Fit Tray Stand
The Fast Fit Tray Stand in 3x3 elevates the tray above the floor or a reservoir, allowing gravity drainage to a collection point below. The stand is adjustable in height and designed to support the full load of a filled 3x3 tray with containers and media. Browse all grow trays and flood tables including 4x4 and 4x8 sizes. 3x3 Grow Trays FAQ
What is the difference between Botanicare OD, ID, and LT trays?
Botanicare OD (outside drain) trays have the drain fitting located on the outside perimeter of the tray -- this makes the drain accessible from the side, which is convenient when the tray sits on a stand where the underside drain is less accessible. Botanicare ID (inside drain) trays drain from the center or bottom, which is preferred when the tray sits directly above a reservoir for gravity return. The LT (lip tray) is a shallower tray with a raised lip designed for holding containers and media without a drain fitting -- intended for drain-to-waste or hand-watering setups where runoff is collected at the tray rim rather than through a fitting.
How many plants fit in a 3x3 grow tray?
The number of plants depends on container size and training method. In 1-gallon containers, a 3x3 tray fits 9-16 plants. In 3-gallon containers, 4-9 plants. In 5-gallon containers, 4 plants in a 2x2 arrangement. For SCROG or LST training where plants are spread to fill the canopy, 1-4 plants in larger containers typically fills a 3x3 tray efficiently. For ebb-and-flow flood systems, plant count and container size affect flood cycle duration and volume -- size your pump and reservoir to flood the tray volume within 5-10 minutes at your target flood depth.
Do I need a tray stand with a 3x3 grow tray?
A tray stand is needed when you want to drain into a reservoir below the tray rather than collecting runoff on the floor. The Fast Fit Tray Stand in 3x3 elevates the tray to allow gravity drainage to a reservoir positioned beneath the stand. Without a stand, the tray sits on the floor and drainage must be collected at floor level or removed manually. For ebb-and-flow recirculating systems, a stand and below-tray reservoir is the standard configuration. For drain-to-waste systems where runoff is discarded rather than recirculated, a tray on the floor with a floor drain or collection point is sufficient.
