How to Use Black Gold Natural & Organic Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss Plus

  • Amend Mix: Add Black Gold® Natural & Organic Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss Plus to your favorite potting soil at a 1:3 ratio to increase moisture retention and organic matter.
  • Choose Container: Choose pots that are the correct size for the planting. If arranging several plants in a pot, make sure it is wide and deep enough to support full growth. When transplanting a plant, the new pot must be slightly larger than the old. Quality containers have drainage holes and saucers to catch water. Cover large drainage holes with screen or a pebble layer for mix retention
  • Transfer: Carefully remove plants from the pots, keeping their root balls intact. If plants are pot-bound, gently loosen the roots for better soil-to-root contact.
  • Planting: Place a layer of amended mix at the bottom of the container; soil depth will depend on container and plant sizes. Center or place the plants as desired, and add fresh mix to fully cover all roots. Gently press the mix down and brush excess away from stems and leaves. Be sure to leave a 1- to 2-inch space at the top of containers for watering.
  • Watering & Feeding: Water in the soil until the bottom saucer is filled. Monitor soil-moisture levels, and water plants once soil feels dry down to a 1-2-inch depth. For better growth and flowering, feed plants regularly with a fertilizer formulated for the plantings. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Growing Environment: Know the light, temperature, moisture, and humidity needs of the plants. Provide them with the best environment for their growing needs for best results.
