Our standards hold from husk to block.

It starts with the husk. NOVACOIR begins with husk selected for fiber integrity, not whatever is most plentiful, and every step after is built to protect it, so the fiber keeps more of its natural structure from husk to block. That's what produces the larger, more uniform particles behind the air and water numbers above, not just washing and buffering after the fact.

The result is a superior balance of air and water within the substrate. Blocks saturate evenly rather than channeling and dry back consistently, which is what lets you steer irrigation and EC rather than chase them, with a layer of forgiveness built in. The structure stays open through the crop, so the balance you start with is the balance you finish with.

Coir is washed, buffered, then washed again — that final rinse clears the loose sodium and potassium released during buffering, which is what keeps EC from spiking on you mid-cycle, not just at the start. Nutrients stay available to the plant instead of being held back by the media: a clean baseline, every block.

Tighter tolerances, block to block — production consistently lands well inside spec, batch after batch. Every detail is designed on purpose.

Cultivation benefits

One root zone, room-wide

Every block starts the same, so the program you write is the program that runs.

Less labor between crops

Faster to hydrate, less wasted water and feed, quicker to plant and the room is turning again.

Steerable, not reactive

Even hydration and consistent drybacks put irrigation, EC and the root zone under your control.

One system, any scale

Same buffering, same tolerances, one room or forty.

Precision features, built in

tight-fit

Tight-fit drip stake holes

Holes are sized for a snug, centered stake fit and drilled all the way through the block. Water reaches the full depth during hydration, so blocks saturate completely with stakes in their final position. No doubling up stakes, no going back to re-seat.

husk texture

Husk structure that absorbs at the drip point

The open, uniform structure takes up water where it's delivered instead of letting it channel through. More of each irrigation stays in the root zone, with less wasted water and feed.

mesh debris bag

Mesh debris bag

A mesh insert keeps fine particulates out of the line, less risk of clogging.

center propagation hole

Center propagation plug hole

A 1.5-inch hole, centered, ready for a clone or seedling drop-in without extra prep.

sensor line

Optimal sensor placement reference point

A printed reference line and marked holes show exactly where to place critical soil sensors, for consistent placement and comparable readings block to block.

nova coir in action

From single-room craft grows to multi-acre greenhouse operations, NovaCoir gives you a washed, buffered and consistent root-zone media that holds its structure crop after crop.

Is NovaCoir organic?

No. NovaCoir is buffered with calcium nitrate as part of the wash-and-buffer process, so it doesn't qualify for an OMRI or organic certification. It's 100% washed and tested coconut coir, just not a certified-organic product.

The drip stake holes go all the way through the block — is that a defect?

No, that's by design. NovaCoir's husk and process are built to absorb water quickly, so you won't see meaningful runoff until the block nears full saturation. Drilling the holes all the way through guarantees the stake seats correctly and reaches full contact with the substrate from the start.

Why might expansion or weight look slightly different from block to block?

Coco coir is a natural agricultural material, so some batch-to-batch variation is normal across any coir product. NovaCoir's sourcing and process control keep that variation minor — block weight typically holds within 20g of target against a 40g spec — rather than the wider swings seen in less-controlled coir.

Do I need to change my irrigation setup to use NovaCoir?

No. NovaCoir uses the same dimensions and drop-in format as standard compressed coir blocks, so your equipment doesn't need to change. That said, any substrate switch benefits from a short trial run to dial in irrigation and feed timing before converting a full room.

How should I hydrate a new NovaCoir block?

NovaCoir is built to accept continuous hydration, typically 60 to 80 minutes without meaningful runoff, so you can fully saturate a block in one pass rather than the pulsed watering breaks many compressed coir blocks require.

Why does NovaCoir use immature (green) coconut husk instead of mature husk?

Younger husk hasn't compacted or built up lignin yet, so it stays more elastic and porous through processing. That's what produces the larger, more uniform particles behind NovaCoir's air porosity and water-holding numbers, rather than relying on washing and buffering alone.

Which size should I choose, 1 Gallon or 2 Gallon?

Sizing generally comes down to plant mass, planting space, and any plant-count restrictions in your state. As a general rule, a smaller substrate volume gives you more control over irrigation — size up once root mass starts to outgrow the block.

Is NovaCoir compatible with sensor-based or automated irrigation systems?

Yes. Each block has a printed reference line marking the optimal sensor placement, so moisture and EC probes go in the same spot every time — which means readings are actually comparable block to block instead of drifting with sensor position.

Is coco coir a sustainable substrate?

Yes. Coco coir is a renewable, biodegradable byproduct of coconut processing and has one of the lowest carbon footprints of common growing substrates.
