Blue Oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) Agar Plate Culture
Experience vigorous growth and rich umami flavor. Known for their striking grey-blue caps that transition to a soft, sophisticated grey upon maturity, Blue Oyster mushrooms are a staple for any gourmet grower. This plate culture, prepared in the Redwood Mushroom Supply (RMS) laboratory, features a resilient and high-yielding strain that is a personal favorite of our lead mycologist for its meaty texture and culinary versatility.
Agile Colonization & Robust Yields
Blue Oysters are renowned for their aggressive mycelium, which spreads quickly through sterilized hardwood or straw substrates. This strain produces dense, layered clusters of fan-shaped caps that are perfect as a meat replacement in smoky marinades. In our in-house trials, this strain consistently delivered 1-2 lbs of fresh fruit per 5 lb block and proved highly reliable for multiple flushes.

The Redwood Mushroom Supply Process
We provide laboratory-grade agar cultures designed for peak genetic vitality and reliability:
-
Premium Agar Base: 100mm x 15mm petri dishes are prepared with high-quality Malt Extract Agar (MEA).
-
Verified Sterility: Sterilization is verified via chemical indicators, and every batch is quality-controlled for contamination-free growth.
-
Professional Packaging: Each plate is individually wrapped and sealed in a breathable filter bag for maximum protection during transit.
-
In-House Tested: All RMS strains are grown in-house to ensure consistent performance and high yield potential.
Cultivation Strategy
Using sterile tools within a Still Air Box (SAB) or Laminar Flow Hood, transfer a 1cm x 1cm agar wedge to sterilized grain. Once the grain is fully colonized, use it to inoculate your final substrate at a 5-10% ratio. Side-fruiting from bags is the recommended method for this strain, as it mimics the natural vertical growth patterns found in temperate forests.
