Redwood Mushroom Supply Grow Guide

Blue Oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) Liquid Culture Syringe

A visually stunning culinary powerhouse. The Blue Oyster mushroom is the perfect entry point for gourmet mushroom cultivation. Known for its rapid colonization and high-yielding capabilities, this strain produces dense clusters of meaty, fan-shaped caps with a striking deep blue-to-grey hue. Prepared in-house by Redwood Mushroom Supply (RMS), this liquid culture is optimized for vigor and ease of use.

Chef-Grade Flavor & High Yields

Prized for its rich umami profile, the Blue Oyster is a favorite among mycologists for its versatility in the kitchen. Its thick, meaty texture holds up exceptionally well to smoky marinades and heavy seasonings, making it a world-class meat replacement. In RMS trials, this strain consistently produced 1-2 lbs of fresh fruit per 5 lb block, with the potential for multiple flushes.

Fruiting Parameters

  • Temperature: 60-70°F

The Redwood Mushroom Supply Process

Our lab-grade liquid cultures are engineered for aggressive growth and genetic stability:

  • Early-Generation Vitality: Cultures are expanded from early-generation slants to ensure explosive colonization speeds.
  • Medical-Grade Standards: Media is sterilized with pharmaceutical-grade equipment and high-quality lab inputs.
  • Strict QC: Each batch is hand-packaged in a clean-air environment, batch-tracked, and quality-assured to be contaminant-free.

Usage & Inoculation

This aggressive strain can be injected directly into wood-based substrate bags (10mL for 3lb+ bags) or grain jars (3–5mL) for further expansion. Blue Oysters require High Fresh Air Exchange and are best side-fruited. For the highest success rates, work within a still-air box or under a laminar flow hood and disinfect all surfaces with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
