Extraction

If you are seeking high-quality extraction equipment for the best concentrates, Hydrobuilder has you covered. We offer top brands at unbeatable prices with exceptional service.

Extraction methods have evolved, allowing growers to turn flower into concentrated forms. This includes using various extraction processes that even small-scale growers can utilize to maximize their harvest.

Maximizing Your Harvest

Don't discard those trimmings! Using extraction equipment can reduce waste and enhance the value of your harvest by converting trimmings into valuable extracts.

Solvent vs. Solventless Extractions

Extraction methods include solvent-based extracts and solventless extraction. Solvent-based methods are common, but solventless techniques offer unique benefits, resulting in different extract consistencies and qualities. The method of non-solvent extraction will determine the consistency and quality of the extract as well.

Extraction Methods

At Hydrobuilder, we provide equipment for four primary solventless methods: rosin, dry ice/CO2, dry sift, and ice water extraction. These methods help extract essential oils and active ingredients from plant material.

For high-quality rosin, combining rosin press and dry sift methods is popular. Our extraction machines work with standard outlets for convenience. Simply plug them into a standard house plug and begin extracting!

Rosin – Rosin Presses

Resinous sap, rosin, is extracted from plant material through a combination of heat and pressure. Although you can perform a basic rosin extraction by placing plant material between parchment paper and using a hair straightener, this method is not recommended due to temperature fluctuations and insufficient pressure, which can degrade the quality of the rosin.

Rosin presses have become incredibly popular and are considered top-of-the-line in extraction equipment. These presses use heated steel plates to press the plant material, extracting rosin efficiently. High temperatures (180°F to 330°F) and intense pressure are crucial for both the quantity and quality of the rosin, but excessive heat and pressure can degrade the product.

This is why rosin presses that control temperature and pressure are highly sought after. We offer manual, hydraulic, and pneumatic presses to suit various needs.

To use a rosin press, simply turn it on, set your desired temperature and other settings, place your plant material into a micron bag, sandwich it between parchment paper, and place it in the press. The press will then extract the rosin for you.

Dry Sift – Dry Sift Tumblers & Screens

Dry sift extraction involves separating pollen from plant material using fine mesh screens. By rubbing dried plant material over the screens, the resin glands, or crystals, break off and fall through, creating a powdery extract that can be further processed.

Our Dry Sift Tumblers automate this process, gently tumbling the dry trim and flowers to collect the separated resin glands. Tumblers are more efficient than manual methods, perfectly balancing agitation to break off resin glands without degrading the plant material.

To use a tumbler, place your plant material into the cylinder-shaped drum, fit it into the machine, close the lid, turn it on, and run it for about 20 minutes.

Ice Water Extractions: Bubble Bags or Machines

Ice water extraction involves washing plant material in extremely cold water to separate the pollen. This method yields a refined extract with a high oil content, resulting in a higher grade of concentrate compared to dry sifting.

Ice Water Extraction is preferred by many for producing a concentrated and desirable oily extract. Washing machines gently swirl the plant material, providing a more delicate approach than tumbling machines.

At Hydrobuilder, we offer two ice water extraction options: manually mixing with a bag/bucket or using a washing machine. For the bucket/bag method, layer multiple micron bags, fill the bucket with ice, cold water, and plant material, then stir gently. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes, then strain and repeat. Bags under 220 microns will contain usable product, and it's recommended to wash the plant material 2-3 times.

Dry Ice Extractions - Dry Ice / CO2

Dry ice extraction produces a powdery resin similar to dry sift. Technically, CO2 extraction is a solvent method due to CO2's high vapor pressure, but it leaves no residue as it evaporates quickly.

For dry ice, water, and dry sift extractions, it's recommended to freeze the plant material first to release resin glands faster and with less effort. Running the plant material through multiple cycles (2-3 times) ensures all usable product is collected.

Dry Ice Extraction is ideal for beginners as shaker kits are affordable and provide a safe way to extract usable resin glands from trimmings. To use, fill a bucket with plant material and dry ice, then place a micron bag around the bucket, flip it over and shake it over a flat surface to collect the resin.
