Why should I have reflective material on my grow room walls?
Optimal grow room lighting is essential in producing high-yield plants. A reflective hood is great start, but to truly increase the efficiency of a lighting setup, growers will implement mylar and other reflective wall coverings, capturing and directing as much light towards the plant as possible.
Covering the walls of your grow room results in an increase in light efficiency by redirecting wasted light back towards the plants. There is no sense in illuminating grow room walls, and mylar and poly sheets help growers get the most out of their grow lights and electricity bills.
What is the best reflective material for growing?
Mylar can be up to 97% reflective, and is easily applied to the walls of your grow room or grow tent. It is extremely flexible, and very effective. Patterned mylar has very low risk of creating hot spots, which are spots where the light is too focused and can burn plants.
Another option is poly, which reflects around 90%, but the selling point here is that these products are black on the back side, which will prevent unwanted light from entering the grow room, and maintaining privacy.
