Is HPS best for flowering?
HPS bulbs are often used for flowering specifically because this technology puts off a very deep red wavelength, which is why it is best for flowering. This type of light forces bulbs to develop dense, robust buds.
You might be wondering, can you use HPS for the whole grow? A lot of times, growers will use metal halide (MH) bulbs during veg, before switching over to their HPS for flower. But, maybe you don't want to deal with that hassle. If need be, HPS can be used for full-cycle growing. However, we strongly recommend mixing up your spectrum for veg and flower.

What HPS bulb is best for flowering?

It depends on a few things. You need to have the right bulb for your fixture, first off. Do you have a single-ended grow light or double-ended grow light? You'll need to choose your bulb accordingly. Then, consider color temperature (Kelvin rating). When it comes to flowering, the best Kelvin rating is between 2,000-3,000.
How long are HPS bulbs good for?
One of the main drawbacks of using HID technology is that the bulbs need to be replaced every so often. Your HPS bulbs will probably be good for around 24,000 hours of use, which is a few years of growing. There are lot's of factors that play into how long your bulb will last, but if you take good care of it, and only purchase higher quality bulbs, you won't have to replace them as often as you'd think.
