GreenClean Alkaline in a Two-Step Cleaning Protocol

GreenClean Alkaline Cleaner is step one in a two-product cleaning sequence used in commercial CEA and greenhouse facilities. The alkaline detergent lifts organic deposits - biofilm, plant residue, grease, oils, and soil - off surfaces before the disinfection step. Running a PAA disinfectant like ZeroTol 2.0 or SaniDate 5.0 directly onto organically loaded surfaces reduces efficacy because the oxidizer gets consumed by the organic load before it can kill pathogens. Clean first with GreenClean Alkaline, then disinfect. That sequence is the difference between adequate and reliable sanitation.

The built-in foaming package means it works with a standard foamer rather than requiring a separate foaming agent - useful in tight facility turnovers where time between crops is limited.

What is GreenClean Alkaline Cleaner used for?

GreenClean Alkaline Cleaner is a sodium hydroxide and sodium tripolyphosphate-based cleaner for removing organic deposits, grease, proteins, and soil from greenhouse structures, equipment, pots, trays, and hard surfaces before sanitizing. It is Step 1 of BioSafe's 3-step sanitation protocol. You cannot effectively sanitize a dirty surface - organic matter consumes disinfectant before it can kill pathogens, so cleaning first is essential.

What is the correct protocol for using GreenClean Alkaline Cleaner?

Apply GreenClean Alkaline Cleaner to surfaces as the first cleaning step. Let sit 5 to 10 minutes to break down organic deposits. Rinse with potable water. Then apply SaniDate 5.0 as the disinfection step. For facilities with calcium scale, mineral deposits, or hard water buildup, also incorporate GreenClean Acid Cleaner between the alkaline clean and the SaniDate disinfection step.

Can GreenClean Alkaline Cleaner be used in foaming equipment?

Yes. GreenClean Alkaline Cleaner works with BioSafe BioFoamer equipment. Foaming the alkaline cleaner onto vertical surfaces and into drains improves contact time and penetration into cracks and crevices. It can also reduce fungus gnats and shore flies when foamed into drains where organic matter accumulates.

What is the difference between GreenClean Alkaline Cleaner and GreenClean Acid Cleaner?

GreenClean Alkaline Cleaner removes organic deposits, grease, and biological soils. GreenClean Acid Cleaner removes calcium scale, rust, bicarbonate deposits, and mineral buildup. For complete facility cleaning, use both: alkaline first for organics, acid for mineral scale, then SaniDate 5.0 for disinfection.
