Complete HPS, MH & CMH Grow Light Kits
Complete grow light kits pair a ballast, bulb, and reflector in a matched, tested combination -- eliminating the component compatibility research required when sourcing each part individually. This collection covers HPS (high pressure sodium), MH (metal halide), and CMH (ceramic metal halide) complete kit configurations from NanoLux, Phantom, DimLux, Growlite, Growers Choice, and FlexStar. Complete HID kits are particularly valuable for growers transitioning from LED or for commercial operations maintaining HID infrastructure where the efficiency of a matched kit purchase reduces procurement complexity.
NanoLux Summit Series Kits
NanoLux Summit Series complete grow light kits in 600W and 1000W double-ended configurations pair NanoLux's Summit Series DE ballast with matching reflectors (Optilux, Wing, or Open) and bulbs (4K, 6K, or 10K MH, or 2.1K HPS) for different growth stage applications. Available in 240V and 277V configurations for commercial facility electrical compatibility. Double-ended (DE) lamp technology provides higher efficiency than traditional single-ended HPS at equivalent wattages -- a 1000W DE fixture produces more usable light per watt than a 1000W SE equivalent.
CMH Complete Systems
Covert 5x5 and Gorilla Grow Tent 4x4 and 5x5 Growers Choice CMH complete tent kits combine the tent, 630W CMH fixture, ventilation, and accessories in a single purchase. For standalone 630W and 315W CMH fixture kits (ballast + reflector + bulb without the tent), see our CMH/LEC grow lights collection. Browse all grow lights or use our Grow Light Calculator. Complete Grow Light Kits FAQ
What is included in a complete HID grow light kit?
A complete HID grow light kit includes: a digital or magnetic ballast (rated for the kit wattage and voltage), a matched lamp/bulb (HPS, MH, or CMH in the appropriate wattage and color temperature), and a reflector or hood (open wing, air-cooled tube, or enclosed reflector). Some kits also include a lamp cord/power cord, hanging hardware, and a timer. All components in a matched kit are tested for compatibility -- the ballast is rated for the lamp type, the reflector is sized for the ballast wattage, and the lamp is the correct type for the ballast ignition circuit. This compatibility matching is the primary value of a kit versus sourcing components individually.
What is the difference between single-ended and double-ended HPS?
Single-ended (SE) HPS lamps have one connection at the base (the mogul base) and are designed for vertical mounting with a reflector above. Double-ended (DE) HPS lamps have connections at both ends and are mounted horizontally in a DE reflector -- DE technology allows higher-output lamp designs that were not possible in the single-ended format. A 1000W DE HPS fixture produces approximately 10-15% more usable light than a 1000W SE equivalent at the same wattage, with better lumen maintenance over the lamp's service life. DE fixtures also run lamps at a higher internal pressure that improves spectral output. For new HID installations, DE is the preferred format; SE is most relevant for growers maintaining existing SE equipment or working with SE-only reflectors.
Are HPS and MH bulbs interchangeable in the same ballast?
Not with standard ballasts -- HPS and MH lamps require different ignition voltages and operating conditions, so a standard HPS ballast will not properly operate an MH lamp and vice versa. Conversion or dual-arc bulbs (HPS/MH conversion lamps) are available that allow limited cross-use, but performance is compromised versus a properly matched lamp. Switchable or "switchable-arc" ballasts are specifically designed to run either HPS or MH lamps -- if you want one ballast to run both types for different growth stages, verify your ballast is specifically rated as switchable before connecting a different lamp type. CMH/LEC ballasts use a specific high-frequency electronic ballast type that is not interchangeable with standard HPS or MH ballasts.
