What makes an LED grow tent kit better than CMH, MH/HPS, T5, and other lights?
An LED grow tent kit is one of the best ways to get started growing indoors, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned green thumb.
Low heat, low energy consumption and high yields are just a few of the reasons LED lighting is considered the best option for grow tents. Regardless of what size tent you need, there is an LED option for you.
LED grow lights are more efficient than traditional HID lights
Nowadays, LED grow lights are incredibly affordable, and are actually a better investment than MH/HPS or CMH grow lights! This is because of the energy savings you’ll see when making the switch.
LED grow lights are much more efficient than more traditional lighting options, providing the same lighting power at a lower wattage compared to HIDs.
LED grow lights provide a full spectrum
One of the biggest issues with using MH, HPS, or even CMH grow lights is that they typically fall into one of two spectrums - veg or flower. This means that to really get the highest yields possible, you need two different lights - one for vegging and one for flower. This can get expensive, and creates unnecessary work.
On the flip side, LED grow lights often come in a full spectrum - meaning you can use just one light for the entirety of your grow!
LED grow tent kits produce higher yields, with higher potency
At the end of the day, all growers really care about is producing a heavy yield of potent flower. When it comes to indoor growing, your light will have the biggest effect on how your plants grow.
LED grow tent kits have been shown to grow bigger plants with more trichome production compared to traditional lighting, while saving you money in the process!
These three reasons make LED grow tent kits a no brainer - save money, grow huge, potent plants, and make this grow your best one yet!
How to build your LED grow tent kit
We’ve made selecting an LED grow tent kit incredibly easy. No more searching through products to find the right one, questioning whether or not you’ve made the right choice.
Now, you can follow a few easy steps and build your own LED grow tent kit to fit your needs. Just follow these steps!
Step 1. Choose your tent size
Before even considering which light you want to grow with, you need to choose your tent!
This will depend on how much space you have to grow, and how many plants you want at one time.
Our post on grow room design will help you with this step, but as you can see above, we have showed you approximately how many plants you can fit in each.
After you have selected your length and width, you will choose your height.
There are a few options for height, with the most common being 7 feet. If you think you’ll need more head space because you plan on growing really tall plants, you can select the 7’+ option, and you’ll be presented with Gorilla Grow Tent, as they offer an extension option.
On the flip side, if 7’ is too much, we also have a 5’ option - the Gorilla Grow Tent Shorty. This is a great tent for growing in closets, or for growers who want to grow smaller plants.
Note - your original tent selection will determine what options you are presented for tent height and tent brand. If you select a certain length/width, and then don’t see the height option or tent brand you want, it is because it is not available for that size tent. You can try making a different original selection!
Step 2. Choose your LED grow light
After you have chosen a grow tent, you will be presented with a number of LED grow lights that we have hand picked for your tent.
This takes a lot of the guesswork out of choosing an LED grow tent kit, as we have chosen the best lights for that specific tent size. So, you know you are getting exactly what you need!
We have broken down these lights into good, better, or best, depending on your goals as a grower and your budget. Whether you want the best LED grow light possible, or simply a dependable LED light, we have plenty of options for you.
Step 3. Add a ventilation system
After you select an LED grow light, you will choose a ventilation system for your tent. The ventilation system is a crucial component of your grow tent kit, and will help manage temperature/humidity and odors.
At the very least, you will need an exhaust kit to help expel hot, smelly air. If you are serious about your grow, you’ll need an intake kit as well. This will work to bring in fresh air while your exhaust system removes old air.
You also need at least one clip on fan to help circulate air and “make your plants dance”. Depending on the size of your tent, you may want a couple of these. Keeping the air circulating in your tent will strengthen stems, keep temps and odors lower, and help discourage pest and disease development. If you want to learn more, check out our post on grow room atmosphere and ventilation.
Step 4. Choose your growing method - soil vs hydroponics
Once you’ve selected your ventilation system, you’ll need to make an important decision - your growing method.
You can choose between a complete hydroponic system or traditional soil and pots. If you are a new grower, you are probably better off with a complete grow tent kit for soil. Once you have a few grows under your belt, and feel more confident in your abilities, you can always upgrade to a hydroponic system.
Hydroponics is appealing for a number of reasons, with the main one being decreased time to harvest, less water used, cleaner growing conditions, and more. This style of growing can be really fun, but it is challenging. There is a steep learning curve and lots of moving pieces, so if you aren’t willing to dedicate plenty of time and energy to your grow, stick with the lower maintenance option - soil.
Step 5. Add any accessories and upgrades you may need
Once you have your tent, light, ventilation system, and growing method, you are essentially done!
While this is really all you need to grow (besides nutrients), you will inevitably need some accessories along the way.
These include scissors for pruning, trellis for training, propagation supplies for starting seeds/clones, and CO2 for boosting growth and yields.
You will need many of these at some point, so why not grab them while you’re here?! If you don't see the accessories you are looking for, don't worry. We have everything you could ever need for your grow tent, so just reach out to us or browse our site for it.
Step 6. Add your harvest supplies
The final step in building your LED grow tent is adding your harvest supplies. You can grab drying racks, trimming equipment, and even extraction equipment!
Many growers procrastinate on grabbing harvest equipment, because it's so far down the road. But, it makes so much more sense to just grab everything you need right now, and then you don’t have to worry about anything down the line!
Most of what we have presented in this LED grow tent kit builder is for hand trimming, but there is a good chance you may want a trimming machine, especially for the larger grow tent sizes.
If that is the case, we have trimming machines for every size grower! We also carry bucking machines, extraction equipment, storage supplies, and much more.

LED Grow Tent Kit Creator Reviews
- Great way to easily pick and choose items you need
I already had an older 600 watt system and a few other components, so I used this to add in the tent, intake and exhaust ventilation and some other accessories. Cami helped me decide which products are best for my situation and no matter what you select they show all products that are designed to be used together.
My set up is almost done now, just need to get a run down and then decide whether or not I want to use Co2????
