Humidity Domes

When we first take a cutting from a mother plant or try and germinate a seed, we need a way to get these new plants adequate moisture. That is why we use a humidity dome.

What is a humidity dome?

A humidity dome, also known as a propagation dome, is an essential component of a propagation system. The dome covers your propagation tray, and is responsible for maintaining moisture levels within the system. Since seedlings and clones do not have a root system, they struggle to take up moisture. To prevent them from wilting while they try and sprout roots, they need high humidity levels, up to 75%.

When should I remove my humidity dome?

After 5-7 days of propagation, you should start to open up the vents on your humidity dome, one by one. This will allow air in, which will speed up root development once it begins.

After a week or two, you should see a dense enough root system to where humidity levels can return to normal vegging levels (45-50%), and you can remove the dome entirely.

If you are getting ready for your first propagation system, we recommend a complete seedling starter kit or plant cloning kit. This will take the guess work out of propagation, and make the process much simpler.
