Redwood Mushroom Supply Grow Guide

Pioppino (Black Poplar) Liquid Culture Syringe

A gourmet treasure for the home cultivator. The Pioppino, or Black Poplar mushroom (Cyclocybe aegerita), is a stunning species prized for its rich, nutty flavor and a uniquely firm, crisp texture that holds up beautifully during cooking. Rarely found in markets but incredibly easy to grow, this strain is a definitive staff favorite at Redwood Mushroom Supply (RMS).

Growth Characteristics & Tips

This aggressive colonizer produces generous, tight clusters of velvety golden-brown caps. To achieve a full, impressive canopy, we recommend top-fruiting. For best results, keep the culture in a bag until small fruits appear, then open the bag to provide the high airflow this species craves. Using rubber bands to minimize side-pinning will help focus growth into a dense, easy-to-harvest top cluster.

Fruiting Parameters

  • Temperature: 55-65°F
  • Humidity: 90-95%
  • Fresh Air (FAE): High
  • CO2 Tolerance: <2,000 ppm

Storage Guide

  • Short Term: 1-3 weeks (Room Temp)
  • Long Term: Up to 6 months (Refrigerated)
  • Important: Do not freeze. Keep away from heat and sunlight.

The Redwood Mushroom Supply Process

We utilize a pharmaceutical-grade workflow to ensure your genetics arrive vigorous and contaminant-free:

  • Early-Generation Genetics: Cultures are prepared from early-generation slants to ensure maximum vitality.
  • Clean-Air Packaging: Hand-packaged in a sterile, clean-air laboratory environment.
  • Rigorous QC: Each batch is tracked and quality-assured using medical-grade sterilization equipment.
  • Substrate Versatility: While it thrives on Masters Mix or hardwood, it can be injected directly into wood-based bags or expanded via grain spawn.

Usage Instructions

  1. Sanitize: Wear gloves and clean your workspace with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Use a Still Air Box (SAB) or Flow Hood for best results.
  2. Assemble: Disinfect the syringe packaging, remove the cap, and twist the sterile needle into place.
  3. Inoculate: Inject 3-5mL per small grain jar, or the full 10mL syringe for bags 3 lbs or larger. Flame sterilize the needle between uses if inoculating multiple ports.
