Bluelab KCI Storage Solution MSDS Bluelab pH Pen Care Guide Bluelab pH Probe Care Guide Bluelab Soil pH Pen Care GuideThe perfect solution to store and hydrate your Bluelab pH products.
BlueLab knows it is extremely important to care for and store pH probes correctly. pH probes are sensitive glass instruments which age through normal use. The life and performance of pH probes is reduced heavily when they are used or stored dry.
Bluelab pH Probe KCl Storage Solution is made specifically for use with Bluelab pH products. It is designed to increase response time and maximize the life of Bluelab pH pens and pH probes. For best results, use the KCl solution to store the pH pen/probe after use and hydrate monthly. Instructions are on the bottle label.
Bluelab pH Probe KCl Storage Solution is manufactured specifically for Bluelab products are NIST certified and are made to a traceable standard to ensure your Bluelab products last longer and maintain accuracy.
Remember - keep your pH probe wet. Always. If it dries, it dies!

Bluelab pH Probe KCI Storage Solution - Pack of 6 Questions & Answers
Why do I need to use KCl vs tap water or pure water to hydrate and/or store my pH pen or probe in?
Bluelab pH Probe KCl Storage Solution contains the same mix as the KCl reference found in Bluelab pH probes or pens. When you hydrate or store the pH probe/pen in KCl storage solution, you're re-vitalising the KCl reference solution inside the pH probe.
If you use tap water to hydrate or store the pH probe/pen, it can change or weaken the reference inside the probe. Simply put, tap water is not as effective as KCl.
De-ionized, RO (Reverse Osmosis), or Distilled water should NEVER be used to store or hydrate the pH probe or pen. Pure water changes the chemistry in the reference, causing the pH probe/pen to die.
How do I store or keep a pH pen or pH probe wet?
When any pH pen or pH probe is not in use, keep the probe tip covered with KCl storage solution. Remember, the pH probe tip must always be kept wet. If it dries, it dies!
For the Bluelab pH Pen: Each week add 3-5 drops of KCl storage solution to the wetting seal (round hole) of the storage cap. Replace the cap, ensuring the flat side is at the front of the pen and strap / round side is at the back. Ensure the cap clicks on, to ensure the probe is sealed.
For the Bluelab pH Probe, or Soil pH Pen/Probe: Check there is enough Bluelab pH Probe KCl Storage Solution in the cap to cover the probe tip. If not, you'll need to top up the KCl storage solution. Remove the storage cap: Grip the top and twist the base one rotation clockwise to loosen a little. Slide the cap off. Add enough KCl solution to ensure the probe tip will be covered. Place the cap back on the probe. Twist the top anticlockwise to secure.
For long term storage: Remove the storage cap and place the probe/pen upright in a plastic container. Add enough KCl storage solution to ensure the pH probe tip is covered. You'll need to check and top up the solution weekly. Always store the pH probe in KCl storage solution.
Never use RO, distilled or deionized water. Pure water changes the chemistry in the reference, causing the pH probe/pen to die.
How do I hydrate my pH pen or probe?
Stand your pH pen or pH probe upright in a small plastic container. Place enough KCl storage solution into the container to cover the pH probe tip. Leave the pH pen or pH probe to soak in the KCl solution for at least 24 hours.
After 24 hours, store the probe/pen; or rinse the probe tip in clean tap water before calibrating then using.
