Extraction Molds, Press Accessories & Collection Tools
Extraction molds, pre-press molds, and collection accessories are the supporting tools that make heat press extraction cleaner, more efficient, and easier to handle. Pre-press molds shape plant material into a uniform puck before loading into the filter bag and press -- producing more even pressure distribution across the material during pressing and higher yield than loosely packed material. Collection molds shape the extracted oil as it flows onto the parchment during pressing, making handling and consolidation significantly easier. Together with quality filter bags and parchment, these accessories complete a functional and efficient press extraction setup.
Pre-Press Molds
A pre-press mold compresses loose plant material into a dense, uniform puck before it goes into the filter bag. The dense puck fills the filter bag evenly, ensuring the material contacts the heated plates uniformly during pressing rather than concentrating in one area of the bag. Pre-pressing also expels some air from the material, reducing the tendency for bags to burst from air expansion during the initial heat exposure. Pre-press molds are sized by diameter or dimensions to match common filter bag sizes -- match the mold to your bag size for the best fit. Collection Molds & Parchment Accessories
Silicone collection molds define the shape of the extracted oil as it flows from the press during and after the heat cycle. Square and round molds in various volumes catch and contain the extract in a defined form that makes scraping, storage, and portioning easier than collecting from flat parchment. Pre-cut parchment sheets in press-specific sizes eliminate the need to cut parchment per batch. Parchment cones and wraps designed for the press format provide a ready-to-use collection surface. All accessories should be food-grade rated and temperature-stable to the press plate temperature. Fast shipping.
Extraction Molds & Accessories FAQ
What is a pre-press mold and do I need one?
A pre-press mold is a small cylinder or rectangular form used to compress loose plant material into a dense puck before loading it into a filter bag for pressing. Pre-pressing improves extraction by: producing more uniform material density that contacts the heated plates evenly; reducing bag burst risk from air pockets in loosely packed material; and making the loaded bag easier to position consistently on the press plate. For small personal quantities, pre-pressing is a nice-to-have. For consistent production where yield and quality repeatability matter, a pre-press mold that matches your bag size is a worthwhile addition to the setup.
What size collection mold do I need?
Match the collection mold volume to your batch yield. For personal batches of 3-7 grams of input material at 15-25% yield: a 1-3 ml silicone mold collects the output from one press cycle. For larger production batches: 5-10 ml molds accommodate the output from multiple press cycles consolidated in one container. The mold should hold the expected yield from one session comfortably without overfilling -- an overfull mold makes scraping difficult and risks losing extract over the mold edges.
Can I use any silicone as a collection mold?
Use only food-grade or FDA-rated silicone that is specified as heat stable to at least 400-450 degrees F. Standard craft store silicone molds may not be rated for press temperatures and can leach compounds into the extract at high temperatures. Purpose-made extraction silicone molds are manufactured from food-grade silicone specifically for this application. The investment in proper-rated silicone is minimal relative to the value of the extract being collected.
What thickness parchment paper should I use?
Standard parchment thickness for rosin pressing is 40-50 lb weight paper with silicone coating rated to 425-450 degrees F. Thinner parchment (30 lb) tears more easily during scraping and handling; heavier weight is harder to fold for collection. Purpose-cut press parchment sheets in standard plate sizes eliminate measuring and cutting and are the most practical option for regular production. Avoid wax paper entirely (wax melts at press temperatures) and avoid uncoated kraft paper (extract adheres to the paper surface).
Do I need different molds for rosin vs. other extract types?
The silicone collection mold is format-agnostic -- it works for any extract that flows onto a collection surface during processing. The same mold used for rosin collection works for consolidating dry sift, collecting filtered cold water extract, and storing other semi-solid extract formats. The primary sizing consideration is batch volume rather than extract type. Some operators use dedicated molds per extract type to prevent any cross-contamination between material batches.
