Cloning Collars & Neoprene Inserts for Cloning Machines
Cloning collars and neoprene inserts hold stem cuttings securely in aeroponic and hydroponic cloning machines without damaging the soft stem tissue at the cutting base. Properly selected collars keep the cutting in place through the full rooting period, allow air circulation around the stem to prevent rot, and support easy removal for transplanting once roots are established.
Neoprene Collars: Size & Fit
Neoprene is the standard material for cloning collars — soft, flexible, and inert, it grips stem tissue firmly without the compression damage that harder materials cause. Collars are available in multiple hole diameters (typically 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch) to match different stem thicknesses from different plant varieties. Most collars have a slit cut from the outer edge to the center hole, allowing the collar to be opened and wrapped around the stem rather than threaded over the cutting tip — this minimizes physical contact with the cut end during installation. Collar diameter must match the net pot or site opening in your specific cloning machine; check your machine’s site diameter before ordering. Many aeroponic cloning machines include collars with purchase; neoprene inserts are stocked separately as replacement supplies for machines where original collars have worn or been lost.
Reusability & Cleaning
Neoprene collars are reusable for multiple cloning cycles when properly cleaned between uses. Rinse collars thoroughly after each use and soak in a dilute cleaning solution to remove residual root material and prevent pathogen carryover between batches. Inspect collars before each use — torn or compressed collars that no longer hold their shape should be replaced to maintain consistent stem support.
