Cloning & Rooting Gels

Patience is a virtue, but waiting for your clones to develop roots can be frustrating. After all, the real fun starts once plants start vegging, and from there its just a countdown till flower and harvest!

It is important for growers to enjoy the whole process of growing, including cloning. To speed up this first phase, there are a number of rooting solutions available, and cloning and rooting gels are the most prominent.

What is cloning gel?

The role of cloning gels is to first seal off the cut area of your clone. This prevents air bubbles and bacteria from entering the young, delicate plant. The second responsibility of rooting gel is to provide hormones to the plant that encourage rooting.

What is clonex rooting gel, and how is it used?

Clonex rooting gel is one of the most popular cloning gels available. Clonex is a reputable brand, and their products have been prized for the way they speed up rooting.

To use clonex, or any other rooting gel, first prepare a small portion in a separate container. You do not want to dip cuttings directly into the bottle, as this can lead to cross contamination.

Once your cloning gel is ready, you can start stripping clones from your mother plant. As soon as you take a cutting, dip it in the gel, and place it in the root cube or cloning machine.

How long does it take for a cutting to root?

When using rooting gels, the rooting process is sped up. It can take up to two weeks, but you usually see root mass after 7-10 days.

Once you see a dense enough root system, you can transplant directly into the new container or hydroponic system.
