I have two of these systems
I have had really no trouble with these systems and have used for going on two years without any failures. Granted you will not be able to raise as many plant that they seem to tell you. You could the number of plants shown if you just have seedlings or have starting clones in mind . In the small the small tank I raise three plants and they flourish with a decent harvest.
In the big tank I put four plants , but they are large growing strains and fill the cabinet. I have raised as many as six plants in the big tank and got a good harvest however it was a lot of work training as the plants grew so I cut it back. Please understand I am not a commercial grower and don't have a large garden so this little system is fine for an old guy to grow his own meds. If you learn hydroponics and follow guide lines for nutrients and keep everything clean you will have very good success with these units. Note that it does have timers which time the light and top feed pump which has an app for your phone to auto mate the whole grow. But you have to monitor water levels and ph daily. So if you don't mind a little work without dirt mess and the trouble that goes with it these units will do the job for small indoor grows.

good for very small plants or herbs
No for full size plants, but it can be useful for herbs etc

This is a waste of money
Do not purchase this item. It is a waste of $209. I will never get my money back and I will most likely never use the system. For starters, it does not come with any type of installation instructions or a user guide. Additionally, there’s no way you can actually grow eight large plants in this device. Especially if you will be growing plants that bear flowers or require training. But the absolute worst part about it is that it does not give you adequate instructions on how to use the water and there are no resources online for it. when you are using a system like this with two air stones constantly aerating the water the pH fluctuates and may never be stable. They don’t tell you this, which will end up in you killing your plants. There is no easy way to change the water or to easily adjust pH. It is a problem because the air stones must be on 24 seven so where as you may start with water around 5.5 pH in a few hours it could be around 7PH and now you are damaging your plants but it is impossible to stop because you are supposed to put this device on an auto timer. Make that makes sense. I wouldn’t even buy there for closets because you can’t fit all of The plant that you think you can in this device. It is extremely small. Trust me do not buy this. You will be much better off getting a standalone five gallon DWC hydroponic bucket.

Great system to start.
Great starter system. After recieving and using once or twice you will see that you can make something like this yourself that is more suited to your needs. You would be hard pressed to buy the items you need much cheaper than this, so easier to just buy this for starters. Also includes 2 seperate hydrophonic types for added safety (water lines will get clogged at times, so plants can rely on the deep water culture). Mine was missing the drain hose and valve (like the person in the Jan 15th review), but one quick email and it was immediately sent out. I do not think a beginning to hydrophonics can do any better than this system.

Mediocre at best
The ergonomics of using this system is pretty poor and it's very overpriced for off the shelf pumps and hardware, the best thing about it is the reservoir.

The hose for the water pump is so short that lifting the lid more than a little results in bring the pump up with it, out of the box only 8 of the 16 sites receive water via top irrigation, the other side ends up pumping all the water to the drain so now I have to find a valve for a brand new $400 hydro system that claims to be ready out of the box.

You also get some no name smart plug instead of the claimed analog timer.
