Reflective Mylar Films for Grow Rooms & Tents
Mylar film is the most reflective wall covering available for indoor growing environments — reflecting up to 97% of incident light back toward the plant canopy. Covering grow room walls and ceilings with mylar maximizes the return on your lighting investment by redirecting photons that would otherwise be absorbed by bare walls, improving canopy PPFD and light uniformity without adding fixture wattage.
Standard vs. Patterned Mylar
Standard flat mylar film delivers maximum reflectivity when applied smooth and wrinkle-free. Any wrinkles, creases, or scratches in flat mylar create focal points that concentrate reflected light — producing hot spots on the canopy surface that can cause bleaching or heat stress. Patterned mylar uses a diamond or embossed surface texture that diffuses reflected light more evenly across the canopy, significantly reducing hot spot risk while maintaining high overall reflectivity. For most growers, patterned mylar is the safer choice — the marginal reflectivity difference versus flat mylar is outweighed by the practical advantage of hot-spot elimination. Mylar film is available in rolls from 25 to 100+ feet for spaces from small tents to large commercial rooms.
Application & Maintenance
Attach mylar to walls using adhesive tape designed for film applications — standard painter’s tape leaves residue and doesn’t hold well in humid environments. Film accessories including reflective tape and corner pieces seal seam points and edges for a complete light-tight installation. Clean mylar periodically with a soft damp cloth to remove dust and residue that reduce reflectivity over time. Use our PPFD & Light Coverage Calculator to model how reflective coverage affects effective PPFD at your canopy.
