Mammoth Lighting Product Documents
The Mammmoth UV Series is a unique grow light that provides supplemental UV light to your plants.
All plants require ultraviolet light (UV) in order for photosynthesis to occur. A drawback to LED grow lights have been that they don’t produce the UV spectrum as readily as other styles, but that’s where UV spectrum LED grow lights come in.
This UV Fold Series Fixture from Mammoth has 8 bars (6 Standard + 2 UV bars) with 2 Dimmer Knobs + 2 Sets of RJ Ports to independently control the UV bars manually or from an external controller. The 6 Standard bars come with 360 diodes/bar for a total of 2,160 diodes
Mammoth Lighting has been developed by indoor growers over many years of careful experimentation and testing. Scientifically engineered to deliver the highest level of PAR output and balanced coverage in the LED grow market.
This is the new slim fold series. No separate power driver - as the drivers are built into the side rails. This is a true plug and play model. Open the box and plug in.
All Mammoth LED Grow Lights are available with either:
- 120 Volt NEMA 5-15P Cord/Plug
- 240 Volt NEMA 6-15P Cord/Plug
Features of the Mammoth UV Fold Series
- 6 standard bars + 2 UV bars with 2 individual dimmers and rj ports for standard and UV bars
- Delivers more light intensity in µmol/s through advanced optical design
- Slim vertical profile conserves precious vertical real estate
- Uniformity and intensity can be fine-tuned by adjusting the 2 built-in dimming knobs
- True IP54 protection against water and dust
- Five-year warranty
What sets this UV LED Grow Light apart?
The ability to independently control the UV bars with a separate dimmer knob and rj ports to an external controller. This gives fully indepent control over the 6 standard bars and 2 UV bars allowing for complete customization of light recipies and sceduling. You want to activate the last 4 weeks of flower (recommended)? You want to experiment and run 96 hours of just UV at the end of flowering? You can! This is a truly unique grow light waiting to give plants the light they deserve.
Studies on whether UV supplemental lighting can improve the aroma and flavor of vegetables are still in their infancy. Recent reports such as "Manipulating Sensory and Phytochemical Profiles of Greenhouse Tomatoes Using Environmentally Relevant Doses of Ultraviolet Radiation"(August 2016) and "Light Quality Dependent Changes in Morphology, Antioxidant Capacity, and Volatile Production in Sweet Basil (Ocimum basilicum)"" (September 2016), found some herbs (e.g., basil) and tomatoes did achieve an enhanced flavor from supplemental UV.
Why use UV light?
Research shows UV Light may increase density, potency, flavonoids, and inhibit mold and fungal development. Outdoors, about 10% of the sun’s light is ultraviolet. When UV light hits a leaf, the plant makes "sunscreen" to protect itself from damage. Plants produce many different types of sunscreen. Some of these sunscreens are physical, like pollen crystals, and some of them are chemical, like anthocyanins and beta-carotene. They protect the plant by reflecting away the harmful UV rays.
UV, specifically UVB is known to damage protein and nucleic acids in plant cells, causing decreased metabolism and decreased number of flowers. Therefore, much of the research recommends adding UV at the end of flowering. Research shows that applying UV light for 6 hours per day, for at the end of flowing can lead to a large increase in potency.
Aside from increasing potency, UV wavelengths can change the color, flavor, and smell of a plant. These changes in color, flavor, and smell often make plants more appealing to humans, but more toxic to some insects. Plants with increased levels of these flavor/smell compounds are less likely to get eaten by insects! Lastly, there is strong evidence that UV wavelengths light prevents the spread and severity of fungal spores. Ultraviolet light is useful for more than just increasing the potency of your plants!
There is still alot to be learned about UV lighting - you now have the chance to lead the experimentation!
