Hydroponic reservoirs are one of the most important components of a hydroponic system. If you want to keep your hydroponic system running to the best of its ability, it is important to keep a lid or cover on your hydroponic reservoir tank. Our complete hydroponic reservoir kits include a cover, but if you purchased just a reservoir tank, you will need a lid.
Why do you need a lid on your reservoir?
Without a lid, your hydroponic reservoir will be exposed to contaminants in the grow room or greenhouse. Pests, dust, and other debris can get into the hydroponic nutrient solution, which is then pumped into the rest of your hydroponic system.
This can wreak havoc on your system resulting in molds and clogs, but can also have detrimental effects on your plants! If your reservoir is exposed to grow lights or other light sources, it can become a breeding ground for algae. Keeping your reservoir covered will also cut down on evaporation rates.
Choosing your hydroponic reservoir lid
When selecting a lid or cover for your hydroponic reservoir tank, make sure the dimensions match up. If the fit is not seamless, there will be areas that are exposed, defeating the purpose of having your reservoir covered in the first place.
For example, a 20 gallon water tank needs a 20 gallon lid. Most reservoir lids contain portholes for convenient access, and drill points to install meters and pumps.
