What is a surfactant?

Surfactants help to reduce the surface tension of water. This is key when mixing water with undiluted solutions. The surfactant will make sure that your mixture is spread evenly on the leaf.

Sometimes these are called surface active agents. It’s commonly used with foliar sprays to ensure better adherence of the spray to the plant leaves. Soaps are a foaming agent too!

What is a wetting agent?

Wetting agents are used in soil. They boost water retention as well as water penetration.

Wetting agents for soil improve water penetration in soils and organic matter. These come in handy when your media is water-repellent. They spread water in every nook and cranny so it can be absorbed better by the soil.
