DIG Product Documents
Installed above an orchard or vine canopy, DIG’s EXL foggers produce micro-sized droplets which evaporate quickly, leading to cooling conditions that reduce the air temperature surrounding leaves and fruits. The foggers, which are perfect for misting systems, are designed to operate at a pressure range of 35 to 80 PSI (2.4 to 5.5 bar), and can lower plant canopy and fruit skin surface temperatures more than other systems with lower flow rates, which leads to increased productivity. They operate at a nominal pressure of 50 PSI (3.5 bar) and utilize a vortex design to spin incoming water into a very fine mist, with higher incoming pressures supporting smaller and finer droplets.
EXL foggers emit very fine droplets at lower flow rates, creating a blanket misting coverage design over an orchard canopy. At 18 to 20 GPM (68 to 91 LPM) per acre, this very effective cooling system also lowers light transmission. With a close-spacing layout, a blanket of fog envelops the orchard to decrease temperature and light transmission. The decrease in temperature is from the evaporation of water from the air, followed by the removal of the water vapor deposit on the fruit skin surface by air movement, leading to overall lower temperatures and a better yield.
Key physiological processes such as photosynthesis are compromised at high temperatures. With the increasing severity and duration of heat waves that limit plant growth, metabolism, and productivity, EXL foggers can be used to cool fruit trees and vines under these adverse conditions, lowering temperatures by up to 20°F (6.6°C) and improving orchard and vine resilience in future similar conditions.
