Light Timers & Controllers come in many different styles depending on your needs. Below are explanations of each type and recommended usage. Each controller has its own features, be sure to take this into account when deciding what timer or controller will work best for your grow room.

Light Timers are best for 1 or 2 lights. These timers come in mechanical or digital and have low max watts and amps. Standard timers are easy to program and are often used for other purposes, like to run pumps, fans, light movers and more.

HID Controllers are designed to be used with 4 or more high wattage lights at the same time. These rugged controllers are built with heavy duty components to withstand larger power demands. Be sure to check for features like built-in timers, circuit breakers, and plug types when deciding what controller will be best for your situation.

Flip Boxes allow you to run two different sets of lights with only one set of ballasts by alternating their lighting schedules. For example, by using a Flip Box you could run 16 lights off of only 8 ballasts rather than needing a ballast for each light. Using Flip Boxes will double production, save on equipment and maximize available power.

Number of Outlets - Choose your lighting controller and/or timer based off of the number of outlets you need for your grow room lighting. Be sure to check what voltage plugs are included in the controller or timer for compatibility with your grow lights or ballasts.

Hardwired - Some lighting controllers are required to be hardwired directly into the electrical in your house. These units do not have the typical 120 or 240 Volt plug. Please consult with a licensed electrician prior to installation.
