Spider mite control has been difficult using the current products available up until now because of their limitations and toxicity. Natural products are the safer way to get rid of spider mites but not all natural products are effective. Only a few natural plant oils can control spider mites safely. Some may be organic, like Neem oil or Cottonseed oil for instance, but they are so harsh they harm plant tissue and endanger the user. Controlling Spider Mites safely is the goal of Liquid Ladybug.

There is no comparison between Liquid Ladybug™ and any of the other spider mite sprays. Our approach is “clever is better!” because the ‘bigger hammer’ philosophy is not the best way to end a spider mite infestation. The safety of the grower and the health of the plant are paramount.

Recognizing a Spider Mite Infestation

Early detection is essential for spider mite control. Spider mites are usually the two spotted spider mite or the red spider mite. Early evidence of an infestation is the damage they do to leaves. This is usually seen first as a stippling or white dotted pattern on leaves. Underneath these leaf dots will be mites; barely seen with the naked eye so a magnifying glass is a good investment when detecting the infesting insect. An alternative method is to hold a white sheet of paper under a plant and shake the plant. Mites will fall off onto the paper as black dots slightly smaller than the period at the end of this sentence and the dots may start crawling around.

Bronzing, stippling and burning on the top side of leaves are all characteristic signs of the presence of spider mites. Damaged leaves turn yellow, dry up and drop from the plant. Heavily infested areas are accompanied by fine silk webbing on the underside of leaves, between plant stems, at leaf junctions and at the top of the plant. If the infestations are not removed the plant will die.

Spider Mite Treatment & Control

Liquid Ladybug™ is safe to use daily, so a faster and simply way can now be used to end your infestation. Just spray two days in a row then wait six days and apply a third application. You don’t have to wait for the plant to recover from the initial treatment to apply it again because it doesn’t hurt plant tissue or burn flowers.

Liquid Ladybug™ is Effective in Controlling:

  • Two Spotted Spider Mites
  • Red Spider Mites
  • Red Palm Mites
  • Cyclamen Mites
  • Broad Mites
  • Rust Mites
  • Aphids
  • Fungus Gnats
  • Whiteflies
  • Thrips

Preventing Spider Mite Infestations

A single monthly treatment to prevent mite outbreaks is like an ounce of prevention instead of a pound of cure. To prevent soil born mites from re-infesting plants we have developed the Liquid Ladybug mite shield. This simple solution will keep mites from crawling back up into your plants after treatment and any new mites from infesting your plants that are introduced into your growing area. Cut a strip from a sink sponge and wrap it around the stem of the plant above the growing medium. Secure it with a twist or cable tie then soak it with Liquid Ladybug. This blocks the mite highway – the main stem.

Liquid Ladybug Concentrate, 4 Gallon Questions & Answers

Can I use Liquid Ladybug with the lights on?
Answer: Yes you can. The botanical oils in Liquid ladybug are designed to evaporate from plant surfaces within 25 to 45 minutes so they can’t absorb light energy, heat up and stress leaf tissue like other products. For indoor growing just keep the tops of the plants at least 24” away from 1000 watt lamps.

an I use Liquid Ladybug on plant cutting starts and seedlings?
Answer: Yes you can. It is best to let cuttings recover and begin to root but if you have mites on your cuttings the plant you cut from needs to be treated first. And that is easier now with our Mite Shield.

Can I use Liquid Ladybug on plants in bloom?
Answer: Yes you can, our formula evaporates away and won’t hurt plant tissue but make sure the plants are 24” away from the lights.

Can I use Liquid Ladybug after treating my plants with a sulfur burner for powdery mildew?
Answer: Yes you can, because we designed a rapidly evaporating combination of natural organic oils. However, you might consider using the treatment the Brazilians and New Zealanders use; 10% milk solution. One part low fat or no fat milk to 9 parts water and spray on the plants. This turns the acidic surface of the leaf to alkaline and the mildew dies immediately. You can use to up to 20% solution (2 parts to 8 parts), but 30% will leave a milk fat that will foster snowy mildew. This milk solution remedy also feeds the plant enzymes, Magnesium and Calcium and your leaves like it better than chemical solutions.

Will Liquid Ladybug get rid of thrips and aphids?
Answer: Yes it does, and one thing we do see is a rapid elimination of fungus gnats because you can spray the surface of the growing medium. We never suggest a soil drench because it is so important to not affect the pH, oxygen exchange and nutrient mineral exchange in the root ball. We are introducing new products formulated specifically for larger pests, but Liquid Ladybug is designed specifically for the most ubiquitous pest – the mite.

I have used Liquid Ladybug according to the instructions and I still have mites; what’s happening?
Answer: Liquid Ladybug™ kills mites on contact so you just haven’t sprayed those mites yet. Once mites are on your plants’ leaves, mites and their eggs can fall off the plant into the growing medium. Our microscope video study of mite behavior has shown the growing medium is the major source of hidden mites that can re-infest the plant using the main stem after treatment. This is seen in situations where after treatment, a few days later there are silk webs at the tip top of the plant…the main stem is their highway. In this situation the Liquid Ladybug Mite Shield is the easiest solution to get this problem under control. By isolating the green parts of the plant from the grow medium you can then complete your grow and after you’ve harvested you can really clean out your grow room.

What is a Mite shield and how do I get one?
Answer: You can buy bags of Liquid Ladybug Mite Shield from our Michigan distributor, but you can also make them yourself using a simple sink sponge. Cut strips about ½ inch wide and 6 inches long and wrap them around the main stem a few inches above the growing medium. Attach them with a twist or cable tie, secure but not tightly, just enough to hold it in place. Then soak it with Liquid Ladybug and start treatment. This ensures that the mites hiding in the grow medium cannot re-invade the green parts and then eradication is far easier in very bad infestations. Go to the Liquid Ladybug Mite Shield tab on our website to see the how it works.

Can I use a fogger to apply Liquid Ladybug?
Answer: No, because you need to fully wet all plant surfaces and foggers don’t do that. We have found that pump sprayers or pressure sprayers do a better job of delivering an adequate film layer of Liquid Ladybug to assure complete coverage.

Can Liquid Ladybug get my cycled propagation infestation under control?
Answer: Yes. By fixing the starting point, the plants used for division and cuttings, mite free seedlings begin the removal of the overall infestation. Some users increase the dwell time (time it takes for Liquid Ladybug to evaporate) to lengthen the time the mites are exposed in heavy infestations using plastic covers and humidity domes. If you fix the plants you are propagating from, and use Liquid Ladybug Mite Shields on the main stems to prevent re-infestation, you can isolate the green parts and get them cleaned up. Then a weekly, bi-weekly or even monthly single application of Liquid Ladybug as a maintenance routine will prevent further outbreaks.

Will mites develop a resistance to Liquid Ladybug?
Answer: No, because Liquid Ladybug™ is designed to only suffocate mites not to poison them (like diluted neuro-toxic poisons currently available in some products). Because of this unique design there is no possibility of building up a resistance. Liquid Ladybug is like tying a plastic bag over the mites’ head, nothing can build up a resistance to suffocation.

Will the Liquid Ladybug Mite Shield hurt my main stems if kept wet?
Answer: No. When you use a Liquid Ladybug Mite Shield you only use it while you’re treating the plant.

Is this product safe to use in the house?
Answer: Absolutely safe, it is safe around people, pets and plants.

Do I have to be concerned about it getting on my skin?
Answer: No, Liquid Ladybug™ is safe to use with bare hands and child safe. You cannot hurt yourself using our product.

Is it toxic to animals?
Answer: Liquid Ladybug™ is non toxic, it can safely be used around pets and wildlife.
